Her Lament
Original linocut print on archival Stonehenge white paper.
2” x 6” image on 9” x 6” paper
Limited edition of 30
An image of barrenness or empty nest, to lament our losses, transitions, or unfulfilled desires.
Originally, I created this image for a friend that was turning 40 and grieving not having children of her own. While lament is alway difficult, I find loss that has no marker particularly difficult. At that time I wanted to create this image to mark and name the lament of barren women - to somehow validate and make space for this grief. Since then I have come to understand that this image can, also, help hold the sorrow of other losses and transitions.
(This image is often was created alongside the print, “Her Song,” and are pictured here together, though they are sold separately.)
